About us

Art of Africa was founded in 1990 by Gezz Robison and began specialising in the arts of southern Africa.

Since then, we have established ourselves as the leading art rental company in South Africa where we promote some of South Africa’s top artists. This has provided a much needed income for the artists during their quiet periods.

Our passion for genuine African art, lead us to the works of the San / Bushmen. Their unique relationship with the natural environment and how they portrayed their abused past, was something that we had never seen before. We immediately fell in love with this powerful, energetic art.

We recognised the importance of the San culture, and with the support of various museums, organizations, galleries and authors, began to specialise in the Bushmen art.

Our aim is to not only promote their art, but for people to have a better understanding of the problems they face, and how these can be overcome. We believe, the more people who are aware of the challenges the Bushmen face, the easier they can progress through their transitional period.

Art of Africa is based in Constantia, Cape Town, and has a large gallery at 90 Queen Victoria Str, Cape Town, South Africa.

We are members of B.A.S.A (Business and Arts South Africa) and an associate member of the Cape Tourist Guides Association.

Art of Africa is a family run business and abides by the following principals:

Mission Statement:

Through the marketing of the Bushmen arts, crafts and culture, we will promote their living standards and help them regain their dignity and a place in modern society.

Values:

• Honesty and integrity
• Fair dealings with artists, crafters and customers.
• Open, honest communications.
• Treat everyone with dignity and respect.
